We highly recommend Custom Choice Home Improvements. We recently had seven windows and one door replaced, and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. From our initial contact, Tariq's communication was clear and consistent.

About aluminium windows
The frames that disappear.
Aluminium gives you what uPVC can’t — sightlines as slim as the steel windows it replaces, large unobstructed glass spans, and a powder-coat finish that holds for decades. Whether you’re replacing the steel windows on a heritage property or pushing the architectural look of a contemporary new build, we have a range that’s honest to it.
Slim sightlines
The slimmest frame profiles on the market. More glass, cleaner lines, period steel-look detail.
Any colour
Powder-coated to any colour you can think of. Dual-colour inside and out available on most systems.
Thermally broken
Polyamide thermal break technology delivers outstanding energy performance — exceeds Building Regulations.
Decades not years
Aluminium frames won't fade, rot or warp. Up to 20-year manufacturer guarantee on the frame.
Featured aluminium ranges
The Crittal look, and beyond.
The signature slim-framed dark aluminium window — equally at home on a Victorian terrace and a modern extension. Two ranges designed specifically for it: Alitherm Heritage for sensitive refurbishment, and Origin’s Soho for contemporary new builds. Plus the wider Origin range below for everything beyond the Crittal aesthetic.

Alitherm Heritage
The Crittal replacement
By Smart Architectural Aluminium — designed as a like-for-like aluminium replacement for the steel windows on Victorian and Art Deco buildings. The signature slim profiles and sightlines associated with traditional steel windows, with polyamide thermal break technology underneath.
- B Energy Rating, U-Value 1.5 W/m²K
- Casement, tilt & turn, pivot & fixed-pane
- Period hardware: lever, monkey-tail, bulb-end
- Approved for listed buildings & conservation areas

Soho Style
The Crittal look, modern
By Origin — takes the same Crittal-inspired slim profiles, dark frames and steel-style glazing bars and engineers them for the modern home. Designed to outperform Building Regulations, matched across the whole house — doors, bifolds, French sets and windows — for seamless cohesion.
- Among the slimmest aluminium sightlines made
- Available across windows, doors & bifolds
- Powder-coated to any colour, Jet Black most popular
- British-made, 20-year guarantee on the frame

Full Origin Range
Beyond the Crittal look
Origin's wider aluminium window collection — casement, picture, bay, French, gable, tilt and turn, bi-folding and sliding — across eight styles. Same British-made engineering and 20-year frame guarantee as the Soho range, with any colour from the powder coat palette.
- Eight aluminium window styles
- Casement, picture, bay, French, gable, tilt & turn
- Slim sightlines across the whole range
- British-made in High Wycombe
“The Crittal look has moved from a heritage replacement to a defining feature of modern extensions. We’ll guide you to the right range at survey based on the property and the planning context — bring the property to the showroom and we’ll talk through both ranges side by side.”

Frequently asked
Questions, answered.
Aluminium or uPVC — which is right for my home?
Aluminium is the right choice if you want slim sightlines, a contemporary look, large unobstructed glass spans, or are matching a Crittal-style heritage replacement. uPVC is the right choice for budget-led specs, flush-sash period detail (Residence Collection), or standard casement replacement. We have both on display in the showroom and will recommend based on your property — no upsell pressure.
Are aluminium windows expensive?
Aluminium sits roughly 30-50% above uPVC for an equivalent spec. A typical 3-bed semi runs £8,000–£14,000 in aluminium fitted, vs £4,500–£7,500 for uPVC. The cost is in the engineering — thermal break technology, slimmer profiles, longer guarantees, and the powder-coat finish. Most customers who specify aluminium tell us it was the single best upgrade they made to the house.
Will aluminium hold heat as well as uPVC?
Yes — modern thermally-broken aluminium meets and exceeds Building Regulations. The Alitherm Heritage delivers U-Value 1.5 W/m²K, the Origin range hits similar performance. The 'aluminium = cold' reputation is from windows made before the polyamide thermal break was standard. Every system we fit has it built in.
Will it rust?
No. Aluminium doesn't rust the way steel does — that's actually one of the main reasons it replaced steel for heritage projects (the Smart case studies you'll see referenced cover refurbishments where the original steel had corroded badly). The powder coat is marine-grade quality, designed to hold for decades without re-finishing.
Can I have the Crittal look on a modern home?
Yes — that's exactly what the Soho range from Origin is for. The steel-style slim bars and dark frames in any configuration you want, but engineered as a modern aluminium product with current thermal and security standards. Most installs are Jet Black powder-coated, but you can have it any colour. Examples in the showroom.
In their words
What customers say about our aluminium installs.
Real homeowners across Peterborough, Cambridgeshire and the Fens. Every review is on Google, TrustATrader and the other platforms — go and verify.
In total we had 8 windows, a front door and French doors fitted. The Custom Choice team came round, took measurements and then sat down with us to show us the full selection of windows and doors. Tony, the person who came round, was fantastic.
We had 9 new windows and special custom arched front door in Agate Grey. Very pleased, cottage looks super now. Tony was brilliant — steered us through with excellent advice from initial visit and progress satisfaction throughout. Thanks also to Brian — surveyor / fitter
